Preppy confidence mixed with 60s glam finds feminine assistance in the pairing of reptile prints and skins alongside butterflies and blossoms for Gucci’s Resort 2015 presentation. The repeated floral motif harkens back to the original “Flora” printed scarf that Gucci designed for Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco in 1966 – a signature which went on to launch Frida Giannini into the position of Creative Director after she successfully revamped the print for a bag collection in 2005. This time around, Giannini tapped artist Kris Knight to reimagine the Flora print, and the results are gorgeous. Charming Flora sheath dresses, shorts, and blouses are placed alongside a range of pastel outerwear, and a high-low mix of materials like snakeskin and denim. Gucci’s overlong wide-leg trousers pooled around the ankles in tomboyish fashion, while collars were kept buttoned-up and modest. Although these elements are demure, there is a sense of regality to the fit and lean lines of Giannini’s streamlined silhouette for the collection. There is no doubt that a wide array of women will be attracted to Resort 2015’s enormous envelope clutches, slim sweaters, and printed chemisier dresses, not to mention its casual sweaters, silver loafers, and bleach-stained knits. With everything perfectly balanced between flirtatious femininity and tomboyish preppiness, this visually appealing collection has huge appeal.
